Fifty Shades of White

CNN:

Two people were removed from the Republican National Convention Tuesday after they threw nuts at an African-American CNN camera operator and said, “This is how we feed animals.”

Harper’s:

A Puerto Rican party functionary—Zoraida Fonalledas, the chairwoman of the Committee on Permanent Organization—took her turn at the main-stage lectern. As she began speaking in her accented English, some in the crowd started shouting “U.S.A.! U.S.A.!” The chanting carried on for nearly a minute while most of the other delegates and the media stood by in stunned silence.

The Republican Party? They built that. Over decades.

Update from Harper’s:

Editor’s Note: After this post was written, it was reported on Buzzfeed and elsewhere that the “U.S.A.” chant on the convention floor began as a response to chants of “Point of Order” by Ron Paul supporters. An RNC spokesperson denied to Fox News Latino that the chanting was related to Zoraida Fonalledas’s nationality.

You can’t trust anybody today.

Why any woman or person of color would take up with the GOP is beyond understanding.

I’m at work so can’t listen to it at full sound, but it looks like they are chanting ‘seat them now’. Is this really about the Maine delegate issue (I am imagining there are different opinions about this)? I mean, you know how much I like to give Republicans the benefit of the doubt…

@homofascist: I’m staying away from the teevee until the evening shift, but that does sound like Ron Paul fallout. There was a fun clip last night where Boehner declared that the Ayes won a voice vote on the issue, when the Nays were clearly deafening.

@nojo: That makes more sense than the Republicans are just disgusting, cruel racists. Oh wait…nevermind, I’m just going to shut up now.
